Type Specimen Poster B

This project was part of my typographic posters assignment where I was assigned to create a type specimen poster with a typeface of my choice using 1 typographic system.

Process

I started by drawing 25 sketches using different types of typographic systems. Afterwards I would seek feedback from my peers and the professor to choose my top 3 designs.

My 3 designs

On Adobe Illustrator, I quickly recreated my 3 designs onto Adobe Illustrator to determine which design to move forward with. I initially went with the 3rd design.

1st Iteration

The main issue with this iteration was that the dot of the lowercase 'i' seemed to be fighting for attention with the name of the typeface, Plantin. Additionally, it was difficult for the viewer to identify the name of the typeface.

Final

To address these issues, I moved one of the type family names, Plantin MT Pro Bold, inside the 'P', enlarged it, and made it red to catch the viewer's eye first. That would immediately influence the viewer to search for "Plantin" in the poster, prompting them to read down and then across.
